Clumsy armed Starbucks robber was destroyed by a lousy paper bag before shooting at cops

This is the moment an Ohio Starbucks burglar was sabotaged with weak coffee shop paper bags before he shot at officers and was arrested on Monday.

Dominic M. Hullum, 30, of Cleveland, was arrested following a failed robbery at a Starbucks in the 27100 block of Lauraine Road in North Olmsted.

He shot at the officers as he tried to flee before being apprehended in a nearby residential area, authorities said.

Hallum reportedly entered the store around 8 a.m. Monday, ordering people to lie on the ground and instructing staff to give him money.

Video from a Starbucks security camera shows a man who looks like Hallum pointing a gun at two distraught cashiers who are removing trays from cash registers and putting money into paper bags.

But when Hallum tried to leave the store, the lousy paper bags gave way due to the weight of the money he planned to rob.

The thief can then be seen struggling to put the money in a white plastic bag, which will also tear when he tries to escape the police.

Dashcam video shows the suspect running through the Starbucks parking lot with a bag of cash in hand before being hit by a police car.

Hallum shoots the officer, and when his bag is torn a second time, he decides his freedom is more important than money and runs from the police.

He was later arrested, but not without a confrontation with police in which he and a North Olmsted policeman were injured.

Both were taken to the hospital, and the officer suffered minor injuries and was discharged the same day. Police have not commented on Hallum’s condition.

He was charged with aggravated assault and North Olmsted Police said they may file additional charges.

“The suspect collided with a police officer at Dover Center Road and Brookpark Extension and shot him multiple times,” North Olmsted Police said in a statement.

“One of our cars was shot at, a bullet hit the hood, and the driver’s side window was shattered,” Sergeant Dan Barrett told Cleveland19.

“Our officer jumped out of the car and returned fire as soon as he started shooting at the suspect.”

Hallum then reportedly got into the car and drove north on Dover Center Road.

He was followed by numerous members of the North Olmsted Police Department before finally stopping at a house on Kingston Circle, where both sides opened fire, police said.

Officers from North Olmsted and Westlake were eventually able to take him into custody, the departments said in a statement.

During the skirmish, one officer was slightly injured. Hallum was also injured, but police did not say if he was being treated at the hospital.

“This guy didn’t care about the safety of anyone, he shoots at officers, so it speaks to his mental state, he doesn’t give a damn,” Barrett said.

Hallum has a long criminal history and has been arrested at least eight times since 2010.

When he was only 19 years old, Hallum was charged with a fourth-degree felony after assaulting a firefighter. In 2014, he was arrested for disorderly conduct while intoxicated, and the following year he was charged with possession of prohibited substances.

His most recent arrest before the Monday incident was in 2021, when he was charged with an aggravated felony charge after being arrested in 2016 for aggravated robbery.
