Beck followed up his Tour de SXSW with an intimate solo acoustic gig at Nashville’s 400-seat club The Basement East on Monday. The Nashville man, Jack White, was there to introduce Beck—or rather, to impersonate him in some way.
In a video posted to the Third Man Records Instagram account, White can be seen on stage introducing himself as Beck and announcing in a fake Southern accent, “I’d like to play one of my favorite Beck songs from the 1990s that I wrote. White then started with the chorus of Chumbawamba’s “Tubthumping,” which then morphed into the chorus of The Proclaimers’ “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles).” Then Beck came on stage and asked, “What are you doing, Jack?” He continued, “They asked for nail clippers. I went to my car to get them. I’ll come back and you play my show.” Just a little comedy by two guys who are a bit more talented in music than comedy.
