John Wall and the Houston Rockets will enter into an acquisition agreement that will allow him to become an unrestricted free agent, according to Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes. As soon as he goes on the open market, he is said to be signing with the Los Angeles Clippers ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Wall, the former All-Star point guard, didn’t play last season while the Rockets tried to trade him. When that proved impossible, the two sides resorted to a buyout. As a result, Wall will sacrifice $6.5 million of the $47.4 million he was owed to join the Clippers. via ESPN.
Wall has only played 72 games over the past four seasons due to a combination of injuries and Houston’s disinterest in fielding him. Your loss is the Clippers’ gain. They’ve been looking for a more traditional point guard for years to pair up with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, and now it seems they’ve found one. In his prime, Wall was among the best athletes and ground generals in the NBA, and his passing should complement Leonard’s and George’s scoring off the wing quite well.
Houston has committed to dedicating his minutes to his younger players. Jalen Green and Kevin Porter Jr. already got the lion’s share of available backcourt time last season, and the Rockets added Kentucky point guard TyTy Washington in the first round of the 2022 NBA draft, making Wall even less important to their future .

Despite his relatively sparse past seasons, Wall is only 31 years old. If he’s actually healthy, he’s still relatively close when most players hit the peak of the aging curve. Houston, still in the process of rebuilding, might not have been able to capitalize on that, but the Clippers can. Even in an adverse Houston situation, when we last saw him in 2021, he was averaging 20.6 points and 6.9 assists per game. There’s another productive player in there somewhere. Now Wall has a chance to prove it at the Clippers.
