“Today I have mixed feelings, I’m HAPPY and SAD!!!! It is ironic that on a day like today, March 20th, as we celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary, I hear you tell the WORLD that you are retiring from MUSIC, which has been your passion for the past three decades was,” González wrote alongside the “Big Boss” video announcing his retirement.
“Soon it will be your turn to say goodbye to the stage, you have enjoyed Daddy Yankee for so long but now it is Raymond Ayala’s turn to enjoy what he has built. Sometimes ends are the beginning of great things. You managed to grow our family with all the FANS around the world who supported you from start to finish, they were, are and will be a part of our lives FOREVER; They have never let you down and have always been faithful to you. Do you FANS know that you are also part of the story,” continued his writing.
Daddy Yankee announces his official retirement from music
In his message, he also took the opportunity to congratulate the performer of “What Happens Happens” on their 27th wedding anniversary.
“My husband, I LOVE YOU and CONGRATULATIONS because although the path was often DIFFICULT, YOU stayed on the path so much so that today you FINALLY SEE THE GOAL. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY. THANK GOD FOR LETTING US GET HERE,” he concluded.
Daddy Yankee stunned the world on Sunday afternoon when he officially announced his retirement from the music industry in an emotional video on his website www.daddyyankee.com. He also announced the dates of his farewell tour entitled The Last Return and his latest album Legendaddy.
“Today I officially announce my retirement from music by giving you my best production and concert tour. I say goodbye to those 32 years of experience with this collectible titled Legendaddy. I’m going to give you all the styles that have shaped me in one album. ‘Legendaddy’ fights, celebrates, is war, romance…” said the metropolitan interpreter in the approximately three-minute video, in which he sits on a surface with the Puerto Rican flag.
“I go with the biggest thanks to my audience, to my colleagues, to all the producers, radio, press, television, digital platforms, and to you, especially you who have been there from the underground, from the roots, from the start by reggaeton. Thanks to the whole world family who inspired me so much in my life,” said the interpreter of hits like “Gasolina”, “Rompe” and “What happens, happens”.
Legendaddy, Daddy Yankee’s first album in 10 years, will be available this Thursday, March 24th at 8pm PDT across all digital platforms.
