The United States Football League (USFL) on Wednesday announced that it will have different rules as it is less than a month away from the start of its first season.
The Birmingham Stallions and the New Jersey Generals will play on April 16. The USFL said the new rules would place more emphasis on offense and big plays, and give teams that fell behind during the game a better chance of getting back in.
“Fans are the USFL’s top priority, so our rules are designed to give fans the traditional physical game they know and love, with some modern dynamic elements thrown in,” USFL Refereeing Chief Mike Pereira said in a press release obtained by Fox News Digital. . . “The vast majority of the rules governing USFL gameplay are standard at the professional or student level. But we’re including some unconventional ideas that we’re convinced will add offense, change some coaching decisions and strategy for the better, and make it easier to get big penalties right. Together, these changes will be beneficial to the game of football and will make fans more engaged and entertaining.”

Extra points
Teams that score a touchdown will have three options for earning extra points. The team could choose one, two or three points after the score.
For one point, the team could have made a 15-yard field goal. To score two points, a team must cross the goal line from the 2-yard line. For three points, a team can try to score from the 10-yard line.
Instant replay
The USFL says all replays will take place at the FOX Sports Control Center in Los Angeles. Each coach will be allowed one replay challenge.
The league added: “The USFL replay team will have the authority to cancel improper personal fouls, including rough passing, hitting defenseless players, face masks, collars and more. The USFL playback team will also be responsible for determining whether the act of transferring interference was clearly intentional when it occurs within 15 yards of the line of scrimmage.”

Start
The USFL says it is committed to making kickoff matches safer. All kickoffs will be taken from the 25 yard line and no member of the kicking team is allowed to line up further than the 1 yard line while the receiving team must have at least eight players spaced between its 35 – and 45-yard lines. .
“After the kickoff goes 20 yards, the first touch must be behind the receiving team. If an untouched kick goes dead, the ball belongs to the receiving team at that location,” the league said in a statement.
Kicks and grappling
To contribute to more points, teams will have two options to potentially keep the ball after it has been scored. The team may attempt a side kick. The second option would be to play the 4th and 12th game from his 33-yard line. If a team scores the first try, it retains possession of the ball; if that fails, then the defense gets the ball.
