NFL Free Agency 2022: Chiefs Sign Former Bears Guard Deon Bush

According to reporting by Adam Schefter of ESPNThe Kansas City Chiefs signed former Chicago Bears defenseman Deon Bush to a one-year contract.

Bush, 28, is a six-year NFL veteran. The Bears selected the 6-foot, 187-pound defenseman from Miami, Florida in the fourth round (124th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft. He appeared in 79 games – starting 12 – 89 tackles (73 solo, one for a loss), three interceptions, a sack, a forced fumble and 10 defensive passes.

He is positioned as a special team player who can defend as a third defender. He’s fielded more than 60% of snaps for Chicago’s special teams in each of the past four seasons, while eclipsing 40% of defensive snaps in just his rookie year and last season, in which he started seasons six and four. games respectively.

There is no information about the contract yet. After completing his rookie contract in 2020, he played on a veterans’ payroll contract as a four-year qualifier, earning $1.5 million, costing Chicago just over $1 million over the salary cap. In 2021, he signed a one-year contract worth $1.5 million. It’s highly likely that his new contract with Kansas City is a veterans’ payroll deal.
