It was later revealed that the Overland Park, Kansas police responded to the same address on March 5 to investigate a report of child abuse or neglect. Hill’s name is also listed in this report.

Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe released a statement on April 24 explaining that he believes a crime took place but there is not enough evidence to file charges.

The next day, local station KCTV released a secretly recorded audio from an airport in Dubai in which a man, believed to be Hill, threatened a woman, believed to be Espinal, as she accused him of harming their child.

After being told that the boy was “afraid” of him, an enraged Hill replied, “You should be afraid of me too, bitch.”

Howe immediately reopened the investigation as the superiors suspended Hill indefinitely.

The reopened investigation was unceremoniously closed again a few weeks later, as Hill was not allowed to visit the team during voluntary summer training and the Chiefs’ mandatory mini-camp.

Hill’s suspension was lifted in July 2019, and while he continued to deny harming his son, he expressed regret at the threats to Espinal, who was pregnant at the time.

“I mean, I’d like to sort this all out, but I’m only here to deal with what I’ve done,” Hill said, referring to the secret audio released by local CBS affiliate KCTV. “On audio, my foul language. I’m going to deal with it. I don’t want no one to talk to my little sister, my daughter that I have now, my mom. This is very disrespectful. My mom got on me. She slapped me on the ear saying, “Come on, grow up with this.” So never again. I’m growing as a person.”
