The Superman & Lois season 2 finale, Waiting For Superman, reveals that the DC television series is not set on Arrowverse’s Earth-Prime.
Superman and Lois just revealed why the Man of Steel didn’t enlist the help of his superfriends from across the Arrowverse to defeat his series’ antagonists.
In the season 2 finale, titled “Waiting For Superman,” Superman and Lois’ longtime Arrowverse fans revealed that the series is not set on Earth-Prime, home of Grant Gustin’s The Flash, Melissa Benoist’s Supergirl, and the Legends of Tomorrow. but in a completely different world. In an interview with TVLine, showrunner Todd Helbing explained the decision to keep Superman and Lois separate from the rest of the Arrowverse: “I’ve said from the start that we want to put our own stamp on Superman’s ownership. It wasn’t meant to alienate us from the Arrowverse, but with a lot of the other shows sadly no longer airing, it felt like the right thing to do.”

The revelation that Superman and Lois are not set on Earth-Prime was revealed through dialogue from Dylan Wash’s General Sam Lane, who told his grandchildren that he “has been a DoD worker for a long time. I’ve seen things you wouldn’t believe – glimpses of other worlds and the leagues of superheroes they’re about. And although we only have your father on this planet, thank God that we do, because he is the best on every earth.
Some Arrowverse fans will likely be frustrated that it took two seasons for Superman and Lois to acknowledge their connection to the larger shared universe, but Helbing explained that they were contractually bound to keep it a secret until the end of season two. “DC and I had a conversation during Season 1 and the decision [to keep Superman & Lois separate] was made at the time, but I wasn’t able to release it until the end of this season,” he revealed. “So when I got all these questions [in previous interviews]I knew what we were doing, but I could never talk about it. It was a little frustrating for me, but I totally understand DC’s position. So that put that to rest.”

With this revelation, The Flash is now the only series still airing on The CW to be set on the Arrowverse’s Earth-Prime following the cancellation of Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman. Justice U, an Arrowverse set series in which David Ramsey’s John Diggle would recruit and train five young metahumans to become heroes while living at a university, is still in development at the network.
