Rachel Zegler presents at this year’s Oscars

Zegler, who starred as Maria Vasquez in the Oscar-nominated musical drama, revealed this week that despite being nominated for best picture in the film, she had not been invited to this year’s ceremony.

“I’m not invited so my boyfriend’s sweatpants and flannel,” Zegler wrote to a fan who asked her on Instagram what she was wearing to the show.

Zegler, who won a Golden Globe for her role in the Steven Spielberg-directed film, added: “Idk everyone, I’ve tried everything but it just doesn’t seem to be happening :’) Couch and be proud of the work we are doing.” worked so tirelessly 3 years ago. I’m hoping for a last minute miracle and a personal celebration of our film, but hey, I guess that’s how it goes sometimes. Thanks for all the shock and outrage – I’m disappointed too. But that’s okay. So proud of our film.”

The Academy’s decision drew strong backlash, particularly from Hollywood’s Latino community, who felt that the star of a Latino-oriented film should be able to represent the film at the Oscars.

As CNN previously reported, nominees will receive tickets as will presenters, with additional tickets given out to studios to distribute at their discretion. While “West Side Story” garnered seven nominations, Zegler was not individually nominated.

The Oscars will be held at the Dolby Theater in Ovation Hollywood on Sunday and will be broadcast on ABC.
