(ANSA) BEIJING, MARCH 24 China today backed Moscow and opposed excluding Russia from the upcoming G20 summit, an idea proposed by the United States as a measure to blame Vladimir Putin’s government for invading the to sanction Ukraine.
Russia “is an important member of the G20 and no one has the right to exclude other countries: the G20 is the premier forum for international economic cooperation, bringing together the world’s leading economies,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said.
China later expressed support for President Vladimir Putin’s participation in the upcoming summit in Indonesia.
Currently, Wang added at the daily briefing, the global fight against the Covid19 pandemic “is at a critical juncture and the global economic recovery is weak while instability and uncertainty are mounting.”
In this regard, “the G20 has an important responsibility in leading the global fight against the pandemic, improving world economic governance and promoting global economic recovery. The G20 must practice authentic multilateralism,” the spokesman stressed, in addition to “strengthening the Solidarity and cooperation and cooperation in addressing the remaining challenges in economics, finance and strong, green and healthy global development.”
Finally, China “supports the Indonesian Presidency for the promotion and cooperation of the G20 in various sectors, in line with the agenda marked by the theme of strong economic recovery”. (ANSA).
