Jorge Masvidal arrested on aggravated battery and mischief charges following alleged attack on Colby Covington

Jorge Masvidal has been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged attack on Colby Covington in Miami Beach, Florida.

According to online records, Masvidal was arrested on charges of aggravated battery/grievous bodily harm and criminal mischief. He is currently being held on $15,000 bail in Miami.

If found guilty on the current charges, Masvidal could potentially face significant time behind bars, and aggravated battery is considered a felony in the second degree, with up to 15 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine. Criminal mischief can also result in imprisonment and/or a fine.

Masvidal’s arrest comes after an altercation that allegedly took place outside the Papi Steak Restaurant late Monday night, where Covington was having dinner with The Nelk Boys, a popular podcast group that frequents UFC events.

Police answered the call and later stated in a report that the victim, identified by MMA Fighting as Covington, told authorities he was leaving the restaurant when the alleged assailant ran up and hit him twice. Covington suffered a broken tooth and an abraded wrist from the attack.

Covington identified Masvidal as the alleged assailant, saying the veteran UFC fighter yelled “you shouldn’t have been talking about my kids” during an argument. Covington said he recognized Masvidal’s voice as well as his hair sticking out of his sweatshirt.

Masvidal appeared to address the spat later that night, when he posted a video on Twitter saying, “Call it a ‘show your face’ challenge… what’s up, I’m from Dade County. You say this shit that you should support. This is how my city rolls.

On Wednesday, Masvidal addressed the situation by appearing at a meeting with the Nevada State Athletic Commission, where he submitted an application for a promoter’s license in the state.

“I had a mutual fight with another athlete, and you know, I can’t talk much about it, but if we could [the application] for later it would be amazing,” said Masvidal.

Masvidal was not charged at the time, but that changed late Wednesday night when he was taken into custody and placed under arrest.
