While several indicators fell in 2020, which was marked by the pandemic and the exit restrictions, some rose again very significantly last year, especially in overseas France. Homicides, for example, increased nationally in 2021: +55 victims.
But according to the Statistics Service of the Department of Homeland Security (SSMSI), the homicide rate per capita is even higher abroad. In the period 2019-2021: 12 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants were thus recorded in Guyana, 6 per 100,000 in Martinique, 5 per 100,000 in Guadeloupe.
On average, the rate across France is 1 per 100,000 inhabitants.
Voluntary beatings and injuries to people aged 15 and over, both inside and outside the family environment, are also increasing in 2021, particularly in overseas territories, where there were more than 5.9 victims per 1,000 people.
The national average is 4.6 per 1,000 inhabitants.
As for sexual violence, according to data from the security services, in 2021 there was another sharp increase throughout France (+33%) and even more so in Guadeloupe (+52%) , Mayotte (+ 44%) and Martinique ( +41%).
Finally, some relatively good news: the Ministry of the Interior states that the number of burglaries abroad, with the exception of Guyana, has fallen by around 6%. On the other hand, voluntary destruction and damage to property is increasing in several regions, notably Guadeloupe, Guyana and Réunion.
