More than half a million syringes for Cuba from Spain

Madrid. More than half a million syringes will be sent to Cuba from Spain as part of a solidarity campaign, sources organizing those donations said today.

The competition, directed by the NGO Sodepaz and carried out with the general leadership of the State Movement of Solidarity with Cuba (MESC), ended this week with a final entry from Catalonia, by the Fons Català de Cooperació al Desenvolupament, the 43rd granted thousand 881.45 euros for these purposes, highlighted the digital site Cubainformacion.

These are funds from several Catalan municipalities for the project “Syringes for Cuba: Support for the COVID19 vaccination campaign in Havana City”, which will be used to acquire more than half a million syringes, 548,518 to be precise, explained the media director Jose Manzaneda.

The project for these tasks was presented by the Casal d’amistat amb Cuba of Badalona, a solidarity organization integrated into the Defensem Cuba platform.

The source indicated that the Fons Català de Cooperació al Desenvolupament is an organization made up of Catalan city councils and other municipal organizations (deputations, district councils and associations) that allocate part of their budget to funding cooperation actions for development and Solidarity provide the peoples of the most disadvantaged countries.

He recalled that Cuba, which had been subjected to a severe economic, financial and trade blockade by the United States since 1962, last year called for international solidarity in the face of the need to buy syringes and needles in a very short time in order to to advance immunization plans for its entire population.

From Europe, the NGO Medicuba Switzerland called the challenge to source 10 million syringes among European solidarity groups, a target that was exceeded. The MESC campaign alone exceeded the mark of four million of these sanitary accessories.

Proudly and despite media manipulation, Cuba joins the exclusive group of the six countries in the world that have developed one or more vaccines in record time, alongside powers like the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, China and Russia.

On the other hand, it was also announced during the week that the Cuban Canary Solidarity Network (RSCC) has loaded a 40foot container that will soon leave the port of Las Palmas for Cuba.

This is the fourth delivery of the campaign “Tons of solidarity against the blockade of Cuba”, which will be carried out throughout Spanish territory and will include medical and hospital supplies, as well as a fetal arthroscopy and laparoscopy surgical team.
