The two taxi dispatch apps, run by Curb and Creative Mobile Technologies, announced Thursday that they will integrate the software with Uber, allowing users to book taxi rides with the Uber app. Uber said it plans to release this feature later this spring.
Trading news rose Uber shares by as much as 4% on Thursday.
“This is a real win for drivers. You don’t have to worry about finding fares during off-peak hours or returning street hail to Manhattan when you’re in the suburbs,” said Guy Peterson, Uber’s director of business development. It states as follows. statement. “And this is a real win for riders who will have access to thousands of yellow taxis in the Uber app.”
The agreement represents a major shift for Uber, which has faced opposition from traditional taxi services since its inception in 2009.
It also happens when Uber, Lyft, and other ride-hailing service companies are tackling a driver shortage. After the coronavirus pandemic dramatically reduced travel, ride-hailing service companies struggled to get drivers back to full speed, making rides more expensive.
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi made fun of plans to add a taxi to Uber apps outside New York City last month.
“We want to get all taxis around the world on our platform by 2025,” Khosrowshahi said in an interview with Andrew Ross Sorkin of CNBC.
Taxi is already available in the Uber app in other countries such as Spain, Germany and South Korea.
