Washington Commanders running back JD McKissick said he changed his mind about signing with the Buffalo Bills because he had “unfinished business” with his former team.
McKissick agreed to a two-year deal with the Bills during a preliminary negotiation period, but returned to Washington when the team told him it would fit the offer. The commanders did not propose to him until this period.
There are conflicting reports about what happened to convince McKissick to return, and Bills general manager Brandon Bean expressed his disappointment last week.
“Once you have an agreement, the agent has to say it’s over,” Bean said. “And this agent did it. And this agent told the other club it was over. But the other club didn’t back down.”

Sources told ESPN that Washington was under the impression that he would have a chance to make the same offer to McKissick.
“So crazy, I don’t remember,” McKissick said of that period. “My agents called me to let me know what happened.
“You can’t ask for the best organization to be chosen, but I had unfinished business in Washington. The way we stopped, we felt like we were leaning… I had things I wanted to prove in Washington. my decision depends on where i want to be. Buffalo is a great organization, but I feel like we can do great here too.”
The Commanders continue to sign contracts during the free agent period, reaching a two-year, $8.2 million deal to bring back forward Cornelius Lucas, agent Dan Saffron told ESPN Thursday.
