Khabib Nurmagomedov has commented on the alleged drama outside the octagon between Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington.
On Monday night between rivals allegedly there was a brawl in Miami Beach. According to police records, the victim, identified by MMA Fighting as Covington, was leaving a Papi Steak Restaurant when the alleged assailant, identified by police as Masvidal, punched the victim twice in the face, resulting in a broken tooth and abrasions. on his wrist from an attack. Masvidal was arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated battery/grievous bodily harm and criminal disorderly conduct.
Nurmagomedov took to social media late Wednesday night to give his opinion on the situation and gave his opinion.
“If you are stronger than someone inside the octagon, this does not mean that you can insult his children,” Nurmagomedov said. “No one has the right to insult someone’s family. Since you have gone down this path, then be prepared to confirm your words.
“You were attacked by a professional fighter, the same as you, your height, and you go to file charges against him with the police?
“I think all welterweights should refuse to fight Colby, just don’t fight him, let him sit without a fight, this will probably significantly affect him and all fighters who even think about insulting families, who provokes the fighters to watch someone in the restaurants deal with him.”
The rivalry between Masvidal and Covington was quite public and at times awkward, leading to a UFC 272 main event bout in which Covington won via unanimous decision. Both fighters continued their feud after the fight, including Covington telling MMA Fighting last week that he would “beat” Masvidal again if the UFC wanted to put it on the table.
Masvidal was released on $15,000 bail early Thursday morning, according to online records. If found guilty, Masvidal could face significant time behind bars – aggravated battery is considered a felony in the second degree, with up to 15 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.
Covington has not yet responded to the alleged incident.
