Michigan School Board president suspended after ‘beating treasurer by slamming her head on table’

The president of a city school board in Michigan has been suspended on charges of brutally assaulting the board’s treasurer by hitting her head on a table and strangling her in a meeting.

Flint Community School Board President Danielle Green was eliminated 6-0 on Wednesday at an emergency school board meeting that Green did not attend. FCS Board Treasurer Laura McIntyre, Green’s accuser, was present during the vote and described the attack, which took place at a morning school finance committee meeting.

“I was attacked out of nowhere, for no reason,” McIntyre, with two black eyes, said at an emergency student council meeting. “There was one person who fought, one person who committed violence. It was not a board, it was one person, and this person grabbed me by the throat, hit my head on the table, hit me on the head several times.”

McIntyre, a self-described “queer mother of three,” said she filed a police report and was taken to the hospital due to her injuries, according to the Detroit News.

– There was no fight. There was no dispute. It escalated from nothing and very quickly turned into an attack. It was an attack,” she said at an emergency meeting. “I’m only here to make sure the truth comes out and justice is done.”

It is not clear why the fight broke out and it appears that the public was unable to physically attend the meeting, although links to the webinar were available to the public to view the meeting while it was in progress. The recorded meeting was not made public after the meeting ended.

Although Green, also a mother of three, was removed from her list as president, she will still be allowed to serve on the Board of Education since she was elected. Going forward, the Board has decided that the police will attend all future meetings until further notice, NBC 25 News reports.

Earlier this month, Green, who has a master’s degree in education, wrote on Facebook: “I just love my board!!! PERIOD.’

She will be replaced by board vice president Joyce Ellis-McNeil for the remainder of Green’s term, which ends in January.

“It was wrong. I did not like it. And I did my best to contain it and stop it. This was not enough (to stop the intended attack). [McIntyre] didn’t deserve it,” trustee Allen Gilbert said.
