Dave Coulier reveals he’s 2 years sober

The actor took to Instagram with a lengthy post about giving up alcohol and saying he’s been sober since January 1, 2020.

“I was a drunk. Yes. An alcoholic,” he wrote. “I loved alcohol, but he didn’t love me back.”

He explained that it would be better for him and everyone he loved if he quit.

“I have chosen to make a choice for my own well-being, for my family and for those around me who I love so dearly,” he continued. “The mental and physical retreat has been a huge challenge for me, but I’ve had the support of @melissacoulier and friends who have already been through the journey.”

Coulier shared a picture of himself with a bloody face, which he said happened while trying to climb a stone staircase while drunk.

“When I was drinking, I was the life of the party. I could make people laugh until they fell,” he said. “In this picture, I was the one who fell. Not because I played hockey or did the things I love – like chopping wood or building, playing golf, fishing or flying planes.”

He explained that even after the fun, he felt terrible for days.

“No one loved ‘beer with the boys’ after a game of hockey or a round of golf as I did. I’ve always been the ‘endgame’ guy in the room,” he said. “The 8 hours of drinking, laughing, and being merrily silly was followed by two days of feeling like a bowl of dog poo.”

He ended his post with a thank you message to his wife, now describing his life as “amazing”.

“The skies are bluer, my heart is no longer closed, and I enjoy making people laugh ’til they drop more than ever,” he wrote at the end of his message. “Thank you Melissa for being by my side. I love you.”

Candace Cameron Bure, former Full House star, commented on the post and said she was proud of him.

“I love you and am always proud of you,” she wrote.
