Montreal: 2,500 social housing applications in Côte-des-Neiges

Community groups are asking the City of Montreal and the Legault government to commit to building at least 2,500 housing units in the Côte-des-Neiges district.

In addition to building these housing units in the Blue Bonnets sector on the former site of the racecourse, authorities are being asked to help finance two projects already underway, Bates and Westbury.

The barrier-free living situation in the district remains worrying, 2,490 households are waiting for low-rent housing.

“After July 1, too many households are struggling to find suitable housing in the neighborhood and are at risk of homelessness, health problems and violence,” said Amira Bensahli, community organizer at Femmes du Monde, a Côte-des-Neiges organizing community .

The Côte-des-Neiges Community Development Corporation, the Social Housing Table and other groups will hold a press conference at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
