Hank Williams Jr.’s son, Samuel Williams, speaks after the death of his mother, Mary Jane Thomas.
In a statement to People, the 24-year-old gave insight into Thomas’ character and how Williams Jr. “fell in love” with her.
“My dear Mama Mary Jane was a beautiful soul who forever influenced everyone who knew her,” said Samuel. “She had a smile and a presence that lit up any room, and she never met a stranger that she hadn’t befriended. Her spirit was gentle and generous. She could pick up a ten point dollar and cook dinner for her grandkids at the same time. Now she’s beaming from above with my sister Katherine Diana right by her side.

“She grew up around batons and cheerleaders and was one of the top models on Hawaiian Tropic. My dad fell in love with the beauty of Daytona Beach when he set eyes on it in the early 80’s. They lived the strongest love story of traveling and hunting and raising a family. She is survived by my father, both her parents Ramona and Bill, her brother Andy, her sister Angela, myself and her three grandchildren: Beau Weston, Tennyson Hiram and Audrey Jane. Rest in peace mom, I will always be Mary Jane’s son.”

Thomas was taken to a local hospital around 5 p.m. local time Tuesday from the Jupiter Beach Resort & Spa in Jupiter, Fla., where she was pronounced dead, a spokesman for the local police department told Fox News Digital. Accounts of her death differ in relation to Thomas’ age. She was in her late 50s or early 60s.
Williams, 72, and Thomas were married for about 30 years. After meeting at one of Williams’ shows in Washington state in 1985, the two tied the knot in 1990.

Thomas and the former Monday Night Football singer of All My Rowdy Friends have raised two children – Samuel and Katie Williams-Dunning.
Williams-Dunning died in a car accident in Tennessee in 2020. Her husband, Tyler Dunning, was in the vehicle and survived with serious injuries.

Last month, Samuel claimed in a video his father and half-sister Holly Williams put him in a conservatory days after Williams-Dunning died in August 2020.
