Donations and congratulations from across Switzerland for Philadelphia Cat intentionally attacked by 2 dogs

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A Philadelphia family’s cat was seriously injured when two people seemingly deliberately let two dogs attack it.

Many people are reporting in the region, nationally and internationally. Buddy’s prognosis remains bleak and he is currently heavily sedated.

Buddy the cat received top-notch 24-hour care after a vicious attack while sitting on his porch.

“Especially the overwhelming support for Buddy is – I can’t even really put it into words. It’s so amazing,” said PSPCA director of public relations Gillian Kocher.

The cat was taken to the PSPCA in critical condition on Tuesday after two passing men deliberately set their two dogs at him this morning.

“The initial thought was that we would stabilize him here at SPACA in Pennsylvania and once we did that we would take him into surgery to examine his wounds to see if there was any internal bleeding or anything like that there,” said Kocher.

But his injuries were so severe that he still hasn’t had surgery. Buddy was taken to an emergency veterinary clinic where he could be monitored 24 hours a day.

“He has many stab wounds. They’re worried about infections, but right now they’re mostly making sure he’s comfortable and has the medication he needs, especially painkillers,” Kocher said.

If all goes well he will be released back to the PSPCA in the next few days where they will continue his treatment.

“If we can bring him back to himself and he’s on the road to recovery, he’ll be looking for a new home,” Kocher said.

Unfortunately, Buddy’s family turned him over to the PSPCA due to possible long-term care costs. People from all over Switzerland sent their congratulations. Donations have exceeded $30,000.

“Of course, those monies go to Buddy and his care, and if those monies exceed Buddy’s expenses, they go to Buddy’s friends, who are other animals around here that need care,” Kocher said.

Buddy definitely won’t be left out in the cold. People are already asking to be put on his adoption list.
