Criticism: The 49-year-old musician called his former Oasis bandmate ‘C**t’ and issued an apology on his behalf on Tuesday
It comes after Noel was branded obnoxious by disability group Scope following his alleged comments.
The 55-year-old singer spoke about his time at Glastonbury as he revealed he watched Jamie T’s set on the John Peel set from the disabled viewing platform.
Noel revealed he had shown his Access All Areas pass to give himself and Rita Ora entry after a security officer tried to stop him and said: “See that pass mate? It’s taking me where the hell.’
‘He should hang his head in shame’: Noel was branded ‘disgusting’ by disability group Scope after his alleged remarks
As reported by The Mirror, Noel went on to joke that he “tipped” someone out of a wheelchair and made his son sit in it so they could sit in front.
He is also said to have joked that he would “touch people on the forehead and tell them to get up… You can go.”
Noel added, “I have to say these disabled cats have a great view of everything.”
In response to the comments, Warren Kirwan, media manager at disability equality charity Scope, told M: “The casual abuse and disparagement of people with disabilities in this interview is abhorrent.”
On stage: The 55-year-old singer spoke about his time in Glastonbury as he revealed he had seen Jamie T’s set on the John Peel set from the disabled viewing platform (pictured performing at the festival).
He continued: “Noel Gallagher and Matt Morgan should know better and be ashamed of themselves. There is no excuse for this kind of language.
“Also, accessible platforms are not for privileged rock stars and their friends. These platforms exist so that disabled people can enjoy live music – without them many of our festivals would just be off-limits.”
M has reached out to Noel’s representatives for comment.
Noel performed at Glastonbury alongside his band High Flying Birds and revealed he enjoys the event as it has no ‘corporate ties’, having performed at a number of festivals during his career.
Noel chatted with Dermot O’Leary on his BBC Radio 2 show before taking to the Glastonbury stage for the fourth time, and the singer questioned why he keeps coming back to the annual event.
He said: “It’s the only festival in the world, literally, I’ve done them all, they’re all big gigs on fields, sponsored by tech companies. This is the only one that is a festival of the arts.
“You can watch a movie, see a comedian, you can go to a knitting circle. I’m telling you I’ve made them all and some of them have their own merits but this is the one that stands out in the whole world. It’s an amazing thing and it’s one of the great things about this country.
Fun times: Noel had partied at the festival alongside the likes of Rose Ferguson, Stella McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne
He added: “I come here more times than I play here, I’ve played here five times but I come every year, it affects your experience when you come to hang out because you’re not handed flyers that trying to sell insurance.
“You meet the locals here, you know, you meet the locals here, a guy in a sailor hat and a woman carrying a picture of a pet that died 30 years ago and she’s like, ‘Oh, that’s my little Luffy Boy, he died around this time last year,” and you’re like, “Okay, do you know where the John Peel tent is?”
While it was Noel’s fourth show at Glastonbury, it was his first appearance on stage with his band Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
