They commemorate the Argentinian Rodolfo Walsh 45 years after his assassination

Buenos Aires, 25.03. (Prensa Latina) Organizations and institutions commemorate today the writer Rodolfo Walsh (1927-1977), who was murdered 45 years ago by forces of the military dictatorship established in Argentina after the 1976 coup.

As part of initiatives to commemorate the intellectual and journalist’s literary and revolutionary work, Minister of Culture Tristán Bauer will attend an event to be held in his former home of Tigre, in Buenos Aires.

Walsh was assassinated by a Navy Mechanics School task force, perpetrators of crimes and human rights abuses, shortly after he circulated a writer’s open letter to the military junta.

The letter, considered one of his most important texts, is an indictment of the horrors perpetrated by the dictatorship, including torture, enforced disappearances, death camps and the extradition of the country to international financial powers.

The fighter closed his letter “without hope of being heard, certain of persecution but true to the commitment to bear witness in difficult times”.

A year after the coup d’état against the government of María Estela Martínez de Perón, who was also the founder of the Latin American information agency Prensa Latina, this capital on the corner of San Juan and Entre Ríos was attacked and riddled with bullets.

His remains, like those of many victims of the dictatorship that lasted until 1983, remain missing.

The author of Who Killed Rosendo? and other works of great importance were pursued and assassinated as part of Operation Condor, directed by the United States Central Intelligence Agency.

Walsh is recognized for his militancy, his secret struggle, and his journalism committed to truth and justice, as expressed in texts such as Operación Masacre.
