Today, the Historic Pact will register the candidacy of its presidential candidate, composed of Gustavo Petro and Francia Márquez, in the National Civil Registry in view of the elections on May 29 in Colombia.

According to the March 13 bipartisan consultation, there were seven candidates for the country’s presidency, and the favorite to win these elections, according to all polls, is Petro.

This alliance brings together farmers, indigenous peoples, human rights defenders, black women, environmentalists, trade unionists, youth, feminists, animal rights activists and other sectors that make up the great diversity of Colombian society.

They will also take part in this democratic exercise, Federico Gutiérrez, Team for Colombia; Sergio Fajardo of the Centro Esperanza coalition; Rodolfo Hernández from the Conservative Party; Ingrid Batancort, for the Oxygen Green Party; Enrique Gomez of National Salvation; and Luis Pérez of Movimiento Ciudadano Colombia Piensa en Grande.

On May 29, the presidential election will be held, which will elect the country’s president and vice-president for the period 2022-2026.

The winning formula must receive half plus one of the total valid votes, otherwise a second round between the two candidates with the highest number of votes will take place on June 19, 2022 and whoever receives the victory will govern for a period of four years without the right to re-election.
