Westerners can try to defeat Russia on the battlefield if they wish, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday, warning that the operation in Ukraine is still in its infancy and that peace talks will become more complicated over time.

The Kremlin chief pointed out that Russia was just at the beginning of its “military special operation”. However, he added that Moscow “is not opposed to peace talks.”
“But those who oppose them,” he continued, “need to know that the further the conflict spreads, the more difficult it will be for them to negotiate with us.”
