Anti-tram sues City of Quebec to stop project

The anti-trams followed through on their threats, taking the city of Quebec to court and demanding that work on the tram project stop immediately.

This was announced by “Quebec Deserves Better” on Thursday afternoon during a press conference organized at Me Guy Bertrand’s offices.

“We will continue the fight,” the lawyer started, again describing the tram as “terrible” and “destructive”.

Technically, the group filed a motion for a preliminary injunction and a petition for an injunction in the Superior Court to stop the project. The group’s lawyers will also appear in the Supreme Court next Tuesday, July 12 at 9 a.m. to formally file the request for an injunction.

They demanded an immediate halt to the work and an immediate halt to the expropriation process. The City of Quebec is also seeking exemplary damages of $500,000.

The lawsuit is against the City of Quebec, the Agglomeration Council, the Attorney General of Quebec and the Attorney General of Canada.

In particular, the anti-tramway allege that the city of Quebec “derided” the BAPE report, wanted to cut down hundreds of trees and failed to take into account “the will of the people”.

Speaking of an “illegal and unconstitutional project”, Me Bertrand reiterated that “if we kill the trees, we kill your democracy”.
