Barely inaugurated, the new Rosemont water complex in Montreal has already had to cease operations due to “mechanical problems”.
This appears on the city’s website, indicating that the complex will be temporarily closed. However, the duration of the work was not specified.
“We have problems with the temperature of the water in the tanks and the air in the enclosure. The temperature is below the acceptable average,” explained Katia Decorde, communications officer for the municipality of Rosemont – La Petite-Patrie, in writing.
However, the building benefits from a manufacturer’s warranty.
“At this point in time we cannot give a reopening date. It is a priority for us to open as soon as possible. In the meantime, the population is invited to take advantage of the outdoor facilities, which are open during the summer season,” Ms. Decorde added.
On June 21, the city of Montreal inaugurated this new complex, built with an investment of nearly $40 million, with great fanfare. The place has a capacity of 400 people and, in addition to its two swimming pools, also includes “multipurpose” spaces.
The complex project was first announced in 2015 to replace the old Rosemont swimming pool that had fallen into disrepair.
The 2019 opening had to be postponed after the Office of Inspector General (OIG) reprimanded the city for a non-compliant tender. The year 2020 was then set as the date for the inauguration, only to be postponed due to the pandemic situation.
