The man drowned in Lake Poschiavo SondrioToday has died

The man who drowned in Puschlav last July 2 did not survive. Matteo Marantelli from Stazzona, municipality of Villa di Tirano, died yesterday afternoon, Wednesday 6 July, in the cantonal hospital in Chur.

The 54-year-old, a coachbuilder and driver for the Perego haulage company, was on the banks of the Poschiavino reservoir when, to escape the heat, he decided to jump into the water. In a few moments there was no trace of the man, he was swallowed up by the lake. Visible and safe, the man lying several meters deep was “a person who was also on the shore of the lake at the time of the accident,” according to the canton police.

When he was brought back to shore, the man’s condition appeared to be very serious. Marantelli was resuscitated at the scene and taken to the hospital by helicopter. Unfortunately, after four agonizing days, his heart stopped beating without ever regaining consciousness.
