Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., criticized President Biden for planning to visit Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and backtracking on his campaign promise to make Saudi Arabia a pariah state. In America Reports on Thursday, Khanna evoked the “irony” of President Biden “begging Saudi Arabia for oil” even as the president exported American oil to other countries, including China.

REP. KHANNA: First see, the Crown Prince MBS hacked an American journalist to death – [Jamal] Khashoggi – and there was legitimate bipartisan outrage. The President said he will make Saudi Arabia a pariah state, he will not engage MBS. They are still waging a brutal war in Yemen. And I don’t think he should meet with MBS until MBS accepts some responsibility for the murder of the American journalist and until they end the war in Yemen. But look at the irony. We beg Saudi Arabia for oil while exporting our own oil around the world. I mean it doesn’t make any sense. And the Saudis will play against us. I have no confidence that the Saudis will do anything that will actually lower prices in this country.
