A footnote in the case of Brian Flores against the NFL and three of its teams states that Tim McDonnell, co-director of the Giants’ staff, had a text exchange with Flores, which shows a growing gap between Bills coach Sean McDermott and the offensive coordinator Brian Dabol. McDonald suggested that Dabol was unhappy with the bills and could leave to be the offensive coordinator elsewhere if Dabol did not get a job as head coach.

Dabol got the head coach of the Giants, which led to a lawsuit by Flores.

On Tuesday, McDermott was asked about the alleged rift between him and his former offensive coordinator.

“We won a lot of matches and then there are conversations that get tough, don’t they?” Not every conversation about good teams and thriving teams like us will be easy, “said McDermott through Matt Parino of syracuse.com. “But no, I didn’t have a problem with Brian.”

Who knows what would have happened if Dabol hadn’t gotten a job as head coach, but he did. So now it is easy for everyone to deny the rift.

“Great four years in Buffalo with Sean, (general manager) Brandon (Bean) and support staff. The players, “Dabol said. “A very special place for me. I obviously grew up there and I am very grateful for the opportunity these guys gave me.

“Yes, I loved my time at Buffalo and I appreciated Brandon and being among all these people, and obviously it was an opportunity to be a head coach, so that was something I’ve been striving for for the last 25 years.”
