Putin compares Russia to the “victim of break-up culture” JK Rowling

Forget the horrific war crimes — Russia is getting a bad rap in Ukraine for the same misguided “breakdown culture” that attacked JK Rowling, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday.

Rowling has been criticized for her statements about transgender people and has been labeled by critics as a TERF – a trans exclusionary radical feminist.

But if Putin thought he would find an ally in Rowling, he was wrong.

The author tweeted In response on Friday: “Criticisms of Western abort culture may not be best voiced by those who currently slaughter civilians for the crime of resistance, or who imprison and poison their critics. #IStandWithUkraine.”

She attached a photo of Russian dissident Alexei Navalny – who had previously been poisoned, allegedly on Putin’s orders – and had just been sentenced to nine years in prison on fabricated fraud charges.

Speaking about the alleged unjust bias towards his country, Putin added: “I am talking about the ongoing discrimination [against] everything related to Russia – this trend that is unfolding in a number of western states.”

The Russian despot even complained that Western films don’t do enough to credit the Red Army with its role in fighting the Nazis during World War II.

“In Hollywood, they made films where the country defeating the fascists was the United States,” he said. “They simply delete the contribution of the Red Army.”

Putin compared this “cancellation” to Nazi Germany, where the fascist government burned books and destroyed art that did not support the official narrative.

NATO and European Union countries have imposed unprecedented sanctions on Russia following Putin’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and apparent attack on civilians. Restrictive measures include travel bans and asset freezes targeting the Russian elite.

Russian conductor Valery Gergiev was also fired from the Munich Philharmonic in Germany in the early days of the war when he refused to speak out against the Kremlin. Gergiev is said to be personally close to Putin.
