The Poncio family name returned to the spotlight this week after digital influencer Gabi Brandt revealed a printout of her credit card statement worth more than BRL 300,000. Despite squandering a life of luxury on social media, the Poncios owe the federal government more than R$1 billion in taxes.

Gabi is married to Saulo Poncio, son of Simone and Pastor Márcio Poncio. The debtor company is cigarette retailer Gudang Brasil, which has about 70 entries on the Internal Revenue Service’s active debt. Taken together, the fines amount to R$1.4 billion.

The company bears the name of the family matriarch and Sarah Poncio, Saulo’s sister. The father is another who appears in the tax office’s list of debtors, although he does not appear in the company’s list of shareholders.
