Two would-be robbers were locked in their own crime scene after attempting to rob a smoke shop – one of the crooks fired 30 shots in a failed attempt to open the door before falling face down.
The Fresno Police Department is looking for a robbery suspect who is still at large after he and two others attempted to rob a Pipes R Us smokehouse on East Kings Canyon Road on Feb. 25 around 9:15 p.m.
Two suspects, 26-year-old Jasmine Hernandez and 27-year-old José Montano, were captured after the robbery, but police are still looking for 34-year-old Adrian Montejano.
According to police, Montejano and Hernandez entered the store with firearms and demanded money from a store employee.
“Montejano demanded money from the victim as Hernandez collected the money in a plastic bag,” the police said in a statement.
However, when the two thugs tried to escape with the money, they were locked at the scene of the crime by another employee who had left.
Fresno police are looking for Adrian Montejano, 34 (pictured), after he and two others – Jasmine Hernandez, 26, and Jose Montano, 27 – attempted to rob a Pipes R Us smoke shop.
Montejano looked flustered as he waited for the employee to hand over the keys to the door.
Montejano fell to the ground after trying to grab the keys Hernandez threw at him, hitting him in the face.
CCTV footage released by police shows an employee left at the store opening a safe for burglars who bypassed the counter as Hernandez stuffed money into a plastic grocery bag.
Once they realized they were locked inside, Montejano started shooting at the door in an attempt to break the lock. When Hernandez ran out of bullets, she handed the gun over to her demented partner in crime, who started firing again, breaking the glass.
Fresno police said “30 bullets” hit the door but “remained ineffective”.
Montano, who was waiting in the car, tried to kick the door but was unable to knock it out of the frame, Fresno police said.
Shooting at the door, the swindlers dropped the money bag and left it on the ground.
They ran around the small store in a panic, and Hernandez slid into the glass window, shaking it. Montejano can be seen jumping around with a worried expression.
Hernandez can be seen demanding that an employee hand over the keys, snatching them from her hand off-camera before tossing them towards Montejano.
Montejano seems to be just as good at stealing as he is at robbing. He fumbles for the keys but misses before falling backwards, hitting his knee on the ground and landing on his face.
The two finally escaped when the escaped driver broke the glass.
Police said all three suspects fled in a vehicle. It’s unclear when the police were able to find Hernandez and Montano, but they are now calling on the public to help find the remaining burglar.
Montejano and Hernandez demanded that the employee open the safe, and Hernandez slipped the money into a plastic bag while the employee sat there.
Montejano and Hernandez realized they were locked in the door and he started shooting at the lock in an attempt to open it. When his pistol ran out of ammo, he used it and shot the door a total of 30 times, but was unable to open it.
After receiving the keys from the staff, they went to meet Montano, their driver. Ernedez and Montano were captured by the police, but Montejano still remains at large. It is not clear if the two robbers, who dropped the bag of money while trying to shoot through the door, left with the cash.
