G7 consultations are ongoing in Brussels

The G7 countries met in Brussels for a summit on the war in Ukraine. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the current chairman of the G-7, received US President Joe Biden and the heads of state and government of France, Italy, Canada, the United Kingdom and Japan in the Belgian capital today. Before that, a special NATO summit took place there.

Germany is presiding over the G7 this year. An EU summit is also planned after the meeting of the seven major industrialized countries. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, after his video speech at the NATO meeting, is also to link the video to the G-7 deliberations.

The United States announced new sanctions against Russia in Brussels. As announced by the White House, sanctions are to be imposed on 48 armaments companies, 328 members of the State Duma and many bank managers. Washington also agreed to accept 100,000. refugees from Ukraine.

After the G7 meeting, the EU summit, to which Biden was invited as a guest, will also concern a possible further tightening of sanctions against Russia.
