DETROIT — Michigan on Friday reported 1,575 new cases of COVID-19 and 38 virus-related deaths — an average of 787.5 cases over the past two days.
Friday’s update brings Michigan’s total number of confirmed COVID cases to 2,076,143, including 32,752 deaths. Those numbers are up from 2,074,568 cases and 32,714 deaths on Wednesday.
The deaths announced Friday include 39 identified during a Vital Records review. Here is the statement from MDHHS:
“The daily number of deaths in confirmed cases is one less than the number identified when reviewing vital signs. This is due to corrections to previously reported deaths during ongoing public health data quality and cleansing efforts to ensure the accuracy of death dates.”
Testing has increased to an average of 50,000 to 60,000 reported diagnostic tests per day 7-day positive rate at 4.53% As of March 22 – A slight increase over the past week but still close to the lowest level since July 2021. Hospitalizations have declined in recent weeks and are now at their lowest level since last summer.

The state’s 7-day rolling average for daily cases as of Wednesday, March 23 was 822. The 7-day average for deaths was 27 as of March 23. The state’s death rate is 1.5%.
Michigan has administered more than 11.4 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine as of March 21 70.6% of those over 16 years old received at least one dose while 64.8% of residents aged 16 and over are considered fully vaccinated.
Across the entire population of Michigan 66.5% have received at least one COVID vaccine dose.
According to Johns Hopkins University, more than 79.5 million cases have been reported in the US with more than 966,000 dead reported by the virus. More than worldwide 10.7 billion vaccine doses were managed, including more than 555 million doses alone in the US.

More than worldwide 462 million people have been confirmed infected and more than 6 million have died, according to Johns Hopkins University. The true numbers are certainly much higher, due to limited testing, different ways nations count the dead, and deliberate under-reporting by some governments.
