A comprehensive agenda was conducted this week by Teresa Amarelle, Secretary General of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), as part of the sixty-sixth session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), March 14-25 at the UN.
The main theme of the event is the realization of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls in the context of climate change, environment and disaster risk reduction strategies and programs.
According to a release by the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amarelle held a meeting with UN Women Executive Director Sima Bahous to discuss gender equality.
He also met with senior officials from different countries, such as Argentina’s Minister for Women, Equality and Diversity, Elizabeth Gómez, and Iran’s Vice President for Women and Family Affairs, Ensieh Khazali.
He also met with South Africa’s Minister for Women, Youth and People with Disabilities, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane; with Mexico’s Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights, Martha Delgado Trujillo; with the President of the Pakistan Women’s Commission, Khawar Mumtaz; and with the Secretary of State for Equality and Inclusion of East Timor, José Da Fonseca Monteiro.
