‘Please! I have to press charges! I have a broken heart and I’m sick, “Cameron’s father said on social media, seeking help in identifying the man.

After the online publication, the detectives found a photo published by Record Couriershowing a strikingly similar man named Andrew Walls.

IN Record Courier an inscription, along with a story of Akron Beacon from about the same time, mentions Wallace as vice president of the Akron canton of the Proud Boys, a far-right group involved in the 2021 attack on the US Capitol.

Akron Police Captain Dave Laughlin said they were familiar with the images and were investigating any connection to the Proud Boys, but added that they could not say for sure that he was a member.

“Obviously it’s a corner we’re looking for to see if it has anything to do with gang activity,” Laughlin said.

After the attack, Wallace was charged with assault and possession of a firearm while intoxicated, and Akron police issued an arrest warrant on Sunday.

Wallace surrendered on Monday afternoon.

Cleveland Executive Director of the Islamic-Islamic Relations Council Julia Shearson called the attack “an act of racist hatred” and said it “should be prosecuted as such by law enforcement.”

She added: “As violent racism continues to grow across the country, it is essential that incidents like this be taken seriously.”

Records from the Municipal Court in Akron show that a second charge of assault has been added.

Wals pleaded not guilty to the charges, Akron police told WKYC, which said the details of the attack had been passed on to the FBI as Wals could face federal charges of hate crimes.

The judge scheduled the preliminary hearing for March 11 at 9:30 a.m. during a virtual court hearing on Tuesday.
