Von der Leyen announced new measures against Russia
The European Union plans to adopt a new set of measures this Friday (15) to maintain and strengthen the effectiveness of the six previous packages of sanctions against Russia over the war in Ukraine and to introduce an import ban on Russian gold.
Export controls for advanced technologies and reporting requirements will also be tightened to make the asset freezes of individuals and companies penalized in the European Union more stringent.

Now the text has to be analyzed and approved by the member countries of the bloc at the European Council which should happen without major obstacles.
In order to avoid new problems like in the case of the Kaliningrad crisis, the EU stressed that the measures are “in no way” aimed at trade in agricultural products between Russia and third countries.
“Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine remains unbroken. That’s why we proposed today to tighten our tough sanctions against the Kremlin, enforce them more effectively and extend them to January 2023. Moscow continues to pay a high price for its aggression,” he told European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in an official statement.
High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell stressed that the measures continue to “attack those close to them [Vladimir] Putin and the Kremlin” and that the package announced this Friday is the result of our “close coordination with international partners including the G7”.
“In addition to these measures, I will also propose to the Council to list more individuals and organizations with asset freezes and restricted travel,” he said.
Since the war began on February 24, the EU has sanctioned hundreds of allies of the Russian president, as well as banks, state and private companies that somehow support the Russian attacks.
