As the “Bild am Sonntag” reports, the defense system would cost around 2 billion euros. It could be operational as early as 2025 and also protect other areas of Europe, such as the Baltic States or Poland, from missile attacks. Background: Russian Iskander rockets can also reach places in Germany within minutes through their trajectory through space.
Former NATO general Hans-Lothar Domröse recently told the Germany editorial network that a protective shield for all of Germany is hardly possible. “An iron dome like Israel’s can only protect larger cities,” says the expert. This is conceivable for Berlin, Hamburg or Munich, for example. “But we can’t guarantee big airspace with expensive iron domes,” Domröse recently told RND.

The Israeli missile defense system works through missile radar systems that would be installed at three sites in Germany, reports “Bild am Sonntag”. The monitoring data would then be communicated to the national command post at Uedem on the Lower Rhine. If there was a missile strike in Germany, it could be detected quickly and an Arrow 3 missile launched to counter it.
Neighboring countries can also get under this “protective shield” using the system in Germany and deploying Arrow-3 missiles in their own country, according to the media report.
So far, however, no decision has been made on the protective shield. However, there are positive reactions from politicians. “We need to better protect ourselves against the threat from Russia. For that, we need a missile protection umbrella across Germany,” said Andreas Schwarz, chief rapporteur of the budget committee for the defense budget, the newspaper. “The Israeli Arrow 3 system is a good solution. We can also encompass the Iron Summit over our neighboring countries. That would mean that we would play a key role in the security of Europe,” the SPD politician continued.
