60-year-old dies in seaplane crash in Shawinigan

A 63-year-old man was killed in a seaplane crash in the Saint-Maurice River in Shawinigan on Sunday afternoon.

According to initial information, the incident occurred around 3:45 p.m., the seaplane-type plane severed cables from Hydro-Québec when it fell, said Geneviève Gagnon, spokeswoman for Quebec (SQ).

“The fire brigade came for nautical assistance,” Ms Gagnon said. Divers from the SQ, as well as teams from Hydro-Québec and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada also visited the site.

A 63-year-old man was pulled from the seaplane and taken to a hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, he died, confirmed the SQ in the evening.

It is not known whether he was alone on board.

An investigation has been launched to shed light on this event.
