Wolfgang Van Halen’s Mammoth WVH paid tribute to Taylor Hawkins with an emotional rendition of Foo Fighters’ “My Hero” during the band’s concert in Boston on Saturday.
Introducing the song, a choked Van Halen told the crowd that the drummer, who died Friday at the age of 50, “was a hero to me and a hero to all of us and a hero to countless people so we hold on.” this necessary.”
Mammoth WVH then kicked off the 1997 Foo Fighters classic, with Van Halen initially helping out on drums before taking center stage on “My Hero.”
Van Halen previously tweeted following the news of Hawkins’ death in Bogota, Colombia: “I will never forget meeting Taylor on tour in San Diego in 2012. He was such a ridiculously kind man. The guy just looked cool. He, my dad and I talked as long as we could until we had to leave.”

He continued, “As an incredible drummer and vocalist, he has been a constant inspiration to me throughout my life. It’s like a kick in the gut… You will be sorely missed, Taylor.”
In the wake of Hawkins’ death, countless artists have taken to social media to remember the beloved member of the music community, while the likes of Elton John and Liam Gallagher have taken to the stage to pay tribute to Hawkins.
