Havana, March 26 (EFE) .- The Cuban Ministry of Health (MINSAP) today reported 957 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours and one death related to this disease.
This is the highest number of new daily positives since February 9th and a consolidation of last week’s uptrend, suggesting a fresh recovery after the wave that peaked in the first half of January on the island.
According to the Epidemiological Daily Report, there are currently 3,780 active patients in the country, of which 27 are under epidemiological surveillance (21 serious and six critical).
The province that reported the most new infections was the Ciego de Ávila headquarters with 164, which approved new measures to combat the outbreak this Friday, such as the suspension of a major music festival.
Ciego de Ávila was followed by the works Villa Clara (105 boxes) and Sancti Spíritus (102 boxes).
The current surge in infections is a far cry from the nearly 9,000 infections per day of the island’s worst pandemic in two years, recorded between July and August 2021.
In recent days, the Cuban government has stepped up alerts, sending teams to the provinces with the highest incidence to analyze the situation and prevent the healthcare system from being overwhelmed.
Almost 90% of Cuba’s 11.2 million residents have completed the vaccination schedule with the local coronavirus vaccines: Abdala, Soberana 02 and Soberana Plus.
In addition, around 6.2 million have also received the booster vaccination.
Cuba has not integrated the World Health Organization (WHO) Covax mechanism for low-income countries to access vaccines, nor has it purchased them on the international market. EFE
