Toronto doctor fired for treating cancer with snake oil

A Toronto, Ontario family doctor has had his medical license revoked for selling snake oil remedies to cancer patients.

dr Akbar Khan was ordered to close his doctor’s office after using unproven cancer therapies, cheating tens of thousands of dollars out of Ontario’s health insurance plan for treatments not provided, and even falsely telling a patient she had leukemia when she didn’t. according to the Toronto Sun.

“Snake oil”, but also “witch’s potion”, that’s what the doctor offered his patients, especially for treatment. dr Khan co-founded the Medicor Cancer Centers clinic, which promotes “non-toxic” cancer treatments.

“Extremely serious”

The Ontario Physicians and Surgeons Disciplinary Court, despite the current shortage of GPs, concluded that it would be “too dangerous to agree to a temporary suspension and then allow him to resume treating non-cancer patients”.

“Extremely serious misconduct and incompetence” was found, affecting many patients and their families, the decision said.

A decision last February concluded that Dr. Khan was incompetent and guilty of professional misconduct. This time, a verdict orders him to close his practice.

The Toronto Sun on Wednesday published an email from Dr. Khan.

“On behalf of our cancer patients, who are doing well but are likely to suffer and die without my care (as they have no access to their treatments elsewhere), we demand that the Ontario government immediately relinquish control of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario takes over. Restore my medical clearance and initiate a full forensic criminal investigation into her (alleged) wrongdoing,” he fired back.
