During the annual “Earth Hour” in Klagenfurt, the light was turned off for an hour yesterday. What started as a simple idea has turned into one of the biggest campaigns in the world in recent years. Every year during Earth Hour, millions of people turn off the lights for an hour at 8:30 pm to send a collective signal for a peaceful, just and sustainable world.

increase public awareness

“We know that this action cannot solve the climate problem overnight. However, it is an important signal to raise awareness of this explosive topic. This year’s Earth Hour also aims to establish a common sign for peace in Ukraine, Europe and around the world. After Klagenfurt entered into a partnership with the Ukrainian city of Chernivtsi and it is heavily affected by the war, this symbolic gesture has even more meaning for us,” said the deputy mayor. Alois Dolinar (Team Carinthia), consultant for climate, environmental protection and European affairs.

As part of Earth Hour 2022, the lights on the facade of City Hall and Lindwurm were turned off for an hour.
