Havana, March 27 (EFE) .- Cuba has detected 822 new Covid-19 patients and reported no deaths in the last 24 hours, while the health authorities observe an upward trend in infections, which they attribute to a low risk perception among the population .

The part of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) reports this Sunday 3,872 confirmed patients among the 9,587 hospitalized in Cuban hospitals, including 20 in epidemiological surveillance.

This Saturday, 957 new Covid-19 infections were registered on the island, which according to the MINSAP evaluations this weekend represents an increase of 14% compared to the previous day.

10,035 positive cases have been diagnosed in the past 14 days, with the highest incidences concentrated in the provinces of Sancti Spíritus and Ciego de Ávila (central), Mayabeque and Matanzas (west), and Las Tunas and Holguín in the eastern zone.

Prime Minister Manuel Marrero, in the daily session of the government, referred to the assessment of the epidemiological situation, which the states of opinion of the population indicate a decrease in risk perception in the face of the disease, which since March 2020 has caused the death of 8,509 people in Cuba.

“I reiterate that we must maintain established protocols and increase risk perception. We must continue to control the confrontation while promoting the country’s economic and social activities,” stressed Marrero.

To date, Cuba has accumulated 1,087,183 positive diagnoses of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus that causes Covid, detected by 13,396,892 samples examined.

The current surge in infections is a far cry from the nearly 9,000 cases a day of the previous one, the worst in two years of the island’s pandemic, recorded between July and August 2021.

Public Health Minister José Ángel Portal explained that 95.6% of the vaccinable population (about 10 million people) have already received the full schedule of local immunogens, while 76.1% have received the booster dose.

Cuba has not integrated the World Health Organization (WHO) Covax mechanism for low-income countries to access vaccines, nor has it purchased them on the international market.
