Alicia Silverstone says she’s “following nature” by still sleeping next to her 11-year-old son, Bear

During an appearance on the Ellen Fisher Podcast, the actress opened up about their unique dynamic, which includes that they still sleep together.

The Clueless star and author of The Kind Diet and The Kind Mama also shared how she leads a healthy vegan lifestyle and some of the benefits of eliminating certain foods and animal products from her diet.

“Bear and I still sleep together,” the actress explained on the July 19 episode, noting that she’s just “following nature” with her parenting style.

The San Francisco native, 45, then joked that she would “get in trouble with mom-shamers if she said that,” but added that at this point in her life it “doesn’t matter.”

As part of her explanation, she used the analogy of how most other species in the wild care for their offspring.

“If you’ve been in a wild environment where there are wild animals, if you put your baby over there, your baby will be eaten,” she said while pointing away from her. “So it’s not ideal for the baby to be over there.

She went on to summarize her style of motherhood and parenting by calling herself “a natural mother” and “a loving mother.”

“I believe in love, I believe in nature and our society is afraid of nature and love,” she said in defense of all critics.

Recalling the time Bear was a newborn and toddler, Silverstone revealed that she rarely used diapers during the potty training phase, instead “watching.”[ed] his cues when it was time to go to the bathroom.

‘It’s so awesome. It’s that simple,” she said in reference to his physical cues, adding, “When I was done feeding him, he would go to the bathroom. When he woke up from a nap, he went to the bathroom.’

The actress and author confessed there was a time when she watched him naked to look for those clues.

“I really enjoyed the cues part because I thought he was flirting with me because he would do that little smile. He had to pee,’ she explained.

‘He loved it. He was like “this works!” She was talking about Jarecki’s change of heart at those natural cues.

Silverstone has shared her passion for the natural life since gaining widespread acclaim after her roles in The Crush (1993) and Clueless (1995), even if this was met with derision and laughter, which it sometimes was.

The Real Heal with Alicia Silverstone host also revealed some of the health benefits she’s seen in her own body after going vegan.

“I think at the end of the day the proof is in the pudding,” she said of a fruit and veg diet.

“What happened to me when I went vegan, when I stopped just yelling at people about it, was my skin changed, my hair changed, my nails changed. I’ve stopped my asthma inhaler, I’ve stopped taking allergy shots twice a week and my body has gotten leaner.

She continued, “My cystic acne went away, the whites of my eyes got really white. You couldn’t bend my nails anymore and they were so brittle before. And I didn’t have to go to the doctor anymore. I didn’t need any more medication, I didn’t need anything anymore, and it was so powerful.”

Silverstone went on to say that she didn’t know she would have all of these benefits because she initially stopped eating animal products for the animals.
