Havana, July 22 (JIT). – The Cuban water polo teams won the second day of this sport at the XXXIV. Central American and Caribbean Swimming Championships (CCCAN 2022) hosted by Barbados by a wide margin.

At the Brigetown Aquatic Center, coach Mario Bermúdez’s students defeated the host team 20-4, with Remmy de Armas of Cienfuegos standing out with six goals and Pedro Ponsa with seven goals.

“Also outstanding, but in defense, Arián Alberto Ferrer del Toro,” National Discipline Commissioner Antonio “Ñico” Cruz, who followed the clash from Havana on Facebook, told JIT.

The Cubans, who played the final challenge of the day today, remain unbeaten in two games and meet Venezuela this Friday in a competition that grants seven odds for both sexes at the San Salvador 2023 event.

In the debut game, the Bermúdez boys defeated Guatemala 21-3 in a tournament also featuring Puerto Rico, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago and the Bahamas.

In the girls’ duel, Miguel Artires’ students beat the representatives of Trinidad and Tobago 35:3. Madonni Chávez, Thaimi González, Rozala Quintero and Dalia Grau led the offense with six goals apiece.

In the first appearance of both teams in the competition, which is played in two rounds, those of the largest Caribbean archipelago and Mexico drew 15 goals.

«Today they were more coupled. On Wednesday, both teams had poor defenses and the arbitration wasn’t up to the level of a tournament at this level,” Cruz compared.

According to the National Commissioner, this Friday the Cubans will face Puerto Rico in the most difficult game.
