First EU country treats Corona like the flu

Spain lifts almost all current corona rules and starts treating the virus like the flu.

While some measures have been reintroduced in Austria, Spain is taking a completely different approach. Going forward, the popular holiday destination just wants to treat Corona as a common, flu-like illness. This means that almost all the rules that were established in the last two years are gone.

No quarantine, no tests

Who is infected with the virus and how high the number of cases is should no longer be clearly recognizable in Spain in the future. Because if you only have mild symptoms, you can go on with your life as normal and don’t need a test or self-isolation at home.

The only measure that still applies to everyone in Spain is the obligation to wear masks indoors and on public transport. However, other restrictions are foreseen only for people over 60 and people with immune deficiency, as well as for pregnant women and healthcare professionals.

More >> More than 22,000 new infections in Austria a day after the number split

The green passport has been abolished in almost all parts of Spain since Monday. The only exception is Galicia, where 3G controls are still in place when entering hospitals and nursing homes, and guest limits per table in restaurants. However, restrictions are also expected to end here on April 9.

Recently, the situation of the crown in Spain has massively declined. On Friday, for example, the seven-day incidence was just 227 new infections per 100,000 population. In hospitals, the virus is only a minor problem, only 3.6% of all hospital beds are occupied by corona patients. Spain stands out with a high vaccination rate compared to the European average. 85% of the population has been vaccinated against the corona virus.
