MPLA began campaigning in Angola

Thousands of residents of the province of Luanda followed the call of the People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), whose President, João Lourenço, outlined in the law the main projections of the government for the period 2022-2027, to win the polls.

The head of state also noted the socio-economic progress and shortcomings of the Luanda territory, home to about 10 million people, a third of the country’s population, making it difficult to provide adequate services and infrastructure.

According to Lourenço, the MPLA began campaigning for Luanda in the belief that it will get voters’ satisfaction for the work done throughout history in favor of solving people’s problems.

The government projects under his mandate, he said, are part of the movement’s trajectory and follow the teachings of António Agostinho Neto, the first president of the republic.

“The most important thing is to solve people’s problems,” the politician reminded in front of a mostly young and female crowd, who loudly chanted Neto’s phrase, which has become an unchanging commitment for the MPLA.

We will return to Luanda at the end of the election campaign, Lourenço announced at the end of the approximately two-hour speech in the district of Camama, municipality of Talatona.

Seven parties and one coalition are participating in the current competition, namely the MPLA, the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (Unita), the Social Renovation Party (PRS) and the National Liberation Front of Angola (FNLA).

The list is completed by the National Patriotic Alliance (APN), the Angolan Humanist (PHA) and Nationalist for Justice in Angola (P-Njango) parties, and the Broad Convergence for the Salvation of Angola-Electoral Coalition (Casa-CE) group. , consisting of five units.

The votes on August 24 will ensure the selection of the 220 deputies of the National Assembly (Parliament) as well as the President and Vice President of the Republic.

According to the legislation, 130 deputies are elected by the national circuit and another 90 by the provincial circuits (five for each of the country’s 18 provinces).

The list leader of the party or coalition with the most votes is automatically elected President of the Republic and Chief Executive.

According to official figures, more than 14 million 399,000 Angolans will be able to vote, including around 22,500 residents abroad.
