He does a 3D robot portrait at Comic Con to solve a disappearance in San Diego

A forensic artist uses a 3D print of a real skull to mold clay into the likeness of a missing person in hopes of solving the case, according to CBS.

Every muscle and every strand of hair is taken into account when shaping.

“Everything that the person looked like before they disappeared is engraved on the clay skull,” explained Joe Mullens, an artist specializing in forensic art.

The face the artist is trying to recreate is that of a young man whose remains were discovered in the Tijuana River in March 1995 and whose murder was never solved.

“We don’t know what happened to that child in 1995, but we want answers,” said Callahan Walsh, an attorney with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children who led the investigation.

Even as technology answers more and more questions, the massive sharing of information is essential to solving investigations.

“Someone from Comic Con might know something,” said Mr. Walsh.

Breeding should be complete by Saturday afternoon.
